Our Methodology

The feature that distinguishes our approach to problem solving and design is that it is holistic, firmly based on human factors principles, industry best practices, and client requirements.

All of our design projects take a participatory, team based, user centric approach. For example, in order to create a design that works for a console (board) operator, one must take into account the physical design, operational characteristics, process characteristics and task requirements. In addition to the plant and operational requirements there are also limits imposed by most DCS systems. From the human factor perspective, the issues we consider include team dynamics and communication, training, situational awareness, vigilance, mental work load, and other workplace stressors.

The challenge is to find the proper balance between all the requirements while maintaining the overall objective to make the user interface work for the operator -- not make the operator adapt to the user interface. This is why we advocate participation from various disciplines within the client and project organizations.
