How We Approach Control Center Design
Our approach to control center design starts at the operator and works outward. Basically this means that we look at the graphics, number and type of screens required, console sizing, adjacency requirements and so on. This is contrary to the typical approach of building a box and then trying to make everything fit inside. Often times the result is a control room that is too small and does not allow for expansion. However, sometimes this is the only option which then requires a lot of creativity and prioritization of requirements. The entire approach is holistic and requires participation from the project/client stakeholders as well as the end users.
We can provide design expertise and experience in the following factors which impact the design and performance of the building:
- User interfaces (graphics, panel alarms, communication devices etc)
- Design of the operating console
- Arrangement of consoles within the control room
- Arrangement of supporting equipment, facilities, and people within and around the control room
- Information and communication links between the control room and other facilities and functions within the business
